About MagicRoadie.com

I'm Dan McLean Jr, and I live in Toronto, Canada. As a live audio professional of almost 25 years, I've "mixed" for musical artsts of every genre, for theatrical productions, and for corporate events of every size and description. I'm also a hobby magician, a member of CAM (The Canadian Association of Magicians), and an instructor at the Sorcerer's Summer Safari, a week-long Magic Camp in Canada.

Whenever I attend a convention or a meeting of the local chapter of the IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians), I'm swamped with questions about audio, wireless, and even stage lighting, and I'm always happy to help, In speaking with magicians, thpugh, it's become pretty clear that there's a lot of misinformation in the magic community concerning stage technology. As with magic, the skill necessary to provide audio & lighting services for a stage show is immense! A qualified audio or lighting technician has years of experience, and many have university degrees or college diplomas in their field.

What I can try present here is the most basic bits of knowledge & skill which they posess, but I'll attempt to present it in a very succinct and efficient manner so that you can substantially improve the quality of your magic show.

In preparing these articles, Andy Leviss provided some very helpful, knowledgabe input. I re-read a couple of the resources by Tim Vear of Shure Inc, and I read the first couple of chapters of "A Practical Guide To Stage Lighting" by Steven Louis Shelley. In Stage Lighitng (part 2), I provide a précis of a method by Stanley McCandless which appeared in his book, "Method Of Lighting The Stage".

Thanks for your interest!
